Five Major Autumn 2015 Trends You Might Already Own

There can be very little in the world more satisfying than learning of a cutting edge seasonal fashion movement that consists of a selection of garments and accessories you already own. Fashion is great, but the one downside of keeping up with the curve and wanting to look your best at all times is that it has never, ever been particularly cheap. Worse still, what often happens is the very moment you throw out those black jumpsuits you promised you’d never wear again, they spring right back onto the scene in Milan and hit the high street for exorbitant prices.

So while it’s not very often that you find your own clothing collection coming back into fashion, it’s nothing short of glorious when it actually does. Which brings us onto the good news – this autumn looks to be an extremely rare example of a season where an absolute ton of the most fashion-forward looks and garments may well already be in your wardrobe. Too good to be true?  You’d be forgiven for thinking so, but to take a look at the major autumn fashion trends making waves across the world right now, it’s impossible not to smirk rather smugly upon realising you were in fact wise not to throw out your old clobber after all.

Here’s a quick look at five examples that might just bring a smile to your face:

1 – Chunky Knits

There cannot be a woman’s wardrobe or attic anywhere in the United Kingdom that doesn’t feature at least a few examples of chunky knitted tops that haven’t been touched for a while. They’re something of a staple we all have and tend to be called upon when the weather is doing its worst – this autumn season however they’re the very height of all that’s chic and current. Hard to believe as it may be, turtlenecks in particular have made a quite enormous comeback for the upcoming autumn season and can be paired with nothing more than skinny jeans or a high-waist pencil skirt to achieve an outstanding look.

2 – Mini Skirts

While it’s not as if the mini skirt ever technically went out of fashion – they’ve been something of a wardrobe staple pretty much since forever. Nevertheless, it’s becoming pretty clear that heading into the 2015 autumn season, mini skirts are likely to be making the most enormous impact and turning more heads than they have in some time. Throughout the world’s most iconic fashion capitals, there was barely a runway ahead of the season that wasn’t jam-packed with mini skirts of every conceivable texture, print, colour and shape you can think of.  Once again, it’s as easy as pairing them with fitted sweaters or long-sleeved shirts for an incredible autumn look.

3 – Flat Black Boots

If there was a time to grab those leather boots, head down to the repair shop and have them given a thorough once-over and a much needed clean, it’s now. Flat black boots are one of the biggest and most important fashion staples of all this season, though in terms of styling are mercifully understated and casual. As such, it really doesn’t matter whether you’ve been hanging onto a pair of ultra-pricey designer boots for decades or simply have an old, unbranded pair littering your closet floor, you have yourself an essential freebie to wear with pride throughout the autumn.

4 – Plaid Anything

It’s becoming abundantly clear that the renaissance of plaid as the mother of all fashion prints is going nowhere other than forward for the immediate future at least. Throughout the spring and summer alike, plaid was absolutely everywhere and being used by pretty much every leading designer on the scene. And just when you thought you might have seen the back of it for the autumn season, things actually prove quite the opposite – plaid is already a major hit for autumn 2015 and covers largely every imaginable garment and accessory from top to bottom.

5 – Puffer Jackets

Last but not least, chances are that if you’ve been nostalgically hanging onto your puffer jackets since the more distant half of the 1990s, you’d have just about given up hope by now that they’d ever reappear on the scene. But they did – puffer jackets made more than a few waves throughout the spring of 2015 and are now primed and ready to make an even bigger mark on the autumn. Of course, getting away with the rather garish neon examples might be a little harder these days, but arm yourself with a puffer jacket in black, brown, grey, beige or any darker tone and you can’t go wrong.
